In a story reporting that former US ambassador to Afghanistan and now ambassador to Iraq Zalmay Khalilzad is to replace John Bolton as US ambassador to the UN, while the pre-Bolton occupant of the UN position, John Negroponte, goes to be Condi Rice's deputy, having also preceded Khalilzad in Baghdad, plus a host of changes in the top military positions, the New York Times offers this insider quote --
"It was clearly time to move the players around on the field," said the senior official, who spoke on condition of anonymity because Mr. Bush had yet to announce the changes. "This helps the president to make the case that this is a fresh start."
